Rewind: capturing camera events and coaching drivers

Rewind records the coachable moments out of the camera footage you are already reviewing, and delivers them to the driver on a page they sign. It runs in your browser. There is nothing to install.

Two people, two screens. A camera manager reviews footage and captures events; they never leave their camera software. Later a safety manager opens the library, watches what was captured, and decides who gets coached. You can be both, but the jobs are separate on purpose.

1. Check your computer works

Run this before anything else. It takes five seconds and tells you exactly what your machine supports.

Supported browsers

Safari (Mac)PartlyNoUse Chrome or Edge instead
Phones and tabletsNoNoCapture needs a computer. Drivers watch clips on their phone, which works fine.
Working on one screen? That is what the floating window is for: it sits on top of your camera software so you never switch back. Click Test the floating window above to confirm it works here. If it does not, Rewind still works, but make this tab its own window, narrow it, and dock it beside your camera software.
Only one screen? That is the normal case and it is what Rewind is built for. The floating window sits on top of your camera software so you never switch away. If your browser has no floating window, put the Rewind tab in its own window beside the camera software and keep it visible.

2. One-time setup

  1. Open rewind.synergysafetygroup.com/capture in Chrome or Edge.
  2. Paste the Rewind key you were given and click Unlock. It is stored on that browser only, so you do this once per computer.
  3. Choose the Customer you are reviewing and type your name. Both are remembered.
Treat the key like a password. Anyone with it can see every clip and text drivers.

3. Part 1: Capturing events

  1. Open your camera software and get to the list of events you are going to review. Do this first.
  2. In Rewind, click Capture events.
  3. Chrome asks what to share. Choose Entire Screen, click your screen, then Share. Pick Entire Screen even if your camera system runs in a browser tab; it is what lets Rewind read the driver name and truck number off the page.
  4. A small window appears and stays on top of everything. That is your control panel. Drag it somewhere out of the way. You will not need the Rewind tab again.
  5. Review your events exactly as you normally would. Open an event, press play, watch it.
  6. Rewind notices the video playing, records it by itself, and crops to just the video so the driver never sees your desktop. It stops when playback stops.
  7. It then reads the screen for the driver, truck number and event type, and decides whether the footage shows something worth coaching. If it does, the clip is saved to the library automatically. If not, it is discarded.
  8. If it clears something you think should be kept, press Save last clip. That overrides the decision.
  9. When you have worked through your events, click End session.

The buttons in the floating window

ButtonWhen to use it
Save last clipThe clip was cleared but you disagree. Works while a video is playing or just after.
Record nowRewind did not notice the video at all. Press it, watch, press stop. Always available as a fallback.
End sessionYou are finished. Stops sharing your screen.
You do not tag anything while capturing. No driver names, no behaviors, no sending. That all happens later in the library, by design: stopping to type on every event is what makes a forty-event review take an afternoon.

4. Part 2: Reviewing and coaching

This is usually a different person, working later. Open rewind.synergysafetygroup.com/library and paste the same key.

  1. The queue on the left is everything captured and waiting. Click one.
  2. Watch the clip. Underneath it you will see what Rewind thought, why, the driver it identified and the truck number.
  3. Check the Driver is right. If it could not identify one, pick it from the list. Adjust the behavior and unit if needed, and add a note the driver will see.
  4. Send for coaching texts the driver a link and moves the clip to "Sent for coaching".
  5. Dismiss deletes the clip and its video. Use it for anything not worth coaching. The library is a work queue, not an archive.
Not sure why a clip was kept, or why one was cleared? Click See exactly what the AI looked at on the clip. It shows every image the system actually analysed.

5. What the driver sees

  1. A text with a link, from your company number.
  2. They tap it and land on a page in the customer's colours and logo.
  3. It asks for the last 4 digits of their phone number before it will play, so a forwarded link is useless to anyone else.
  4. They watch the clip. The confirm button stays greyed out until they have actually watched it.
  5. They sign with their finger, and the signature is emailed to the safety manager as a record.
A driver with no mobile number on file cannot be texted and cannot unlock a clip. Fill those in under Drivers in the console.

6. Sharing a clip with a leader

Every clip has a second link, separate from the one the driver gets. Open the clip in the library and copy Share this clip with a leader. It opens the video and its details with no login and no PIN, so it can go straight into your notes or an email.

Retention: clips and their video are deleted automatically 90 days after capture, and both links stop working at that point. Anything that needs keeping longer has to be saved elsewhere before then.

7. Tuning the detection

The capture screen shows a live motion meter and a reading like motion 3.2 / trigger 1.6 · area 45% · localised motion. You only need this if capture is misbehaving.

What it saysMeaning
stillNothing moving. Correct when you are reading a page.
localised motionA video is playing in part of the screen. This is what starts a recording.
whole screen movingYou scrolled or changed pages. Deliberately ignored.
screen changeYou closed a player or switched view. Ignored, and ends a recording in progress.
recordingCapturing right now.

If a playing video never reads as localised motion, drag the sensitivity slider left until it does. If recordings start when nothing is playing, drag it right. The setting is remembered.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
Nothing happens when I click Capture eventsCheck the browser check at the top of this page. If it asks permission to share and you dismissed it, click again and choose Entire Screen.
No floating window appearedClick Bring back the floating window on the capture page. If your browser does not support it, put the Rewind tab in its own window beside your camera software and use the buttons there.
It is not detecting my videosWatch the reading while a video plays. If it does not say localised motion, lower the sensitivity. Meanwhile use Record now.
It records when I scrollRaise the sensitivity slider.
Clips saved but the driver and truck number are blankThe capture log will say why. Usually the on-screen text was too small to read; make the camera software window bigger and try again.
The driver says the link will not openThey need the last 4 digits of the mobile number on file for them. Check it under Drivers in the console.
The clip shows my whole desktopRewind could not isolate the video pane. Make the video player larger relative to the page and re-capture.

Questions or something behaving oddly: send a screenshot of the capture screen showing the motion reading, and the clip it happened on.
